Using the five steps of hypothesis testing and the 5% significance level (i.e. alpha = .05), does showing the film change students’ attitudes towards the chronically mentally ill?

 Conducting a z-Test

A researcher predicts that watching a film on institutionalization will change students’ attitudes about chronically mentally ill patients. The researcher randomly selects a class of 36 students, shows them the film, and gives them a questionnaire about their attitudes. The mean score on the questionnaire for these 36 students is 70. The score for people in general on this questionnaire is 75, with a standard deviation of 12. Using the five steps of hypothesis testing and the 5% significance level (i.e. alpha = .05), does showing the film change students’ attitudes towards the chronically mentally ill?

  1. What does it mean to set alpha at .05?
  2. What is your null hypothesis? Alternate hypothesis?
  3. Is this a one-tailed or two-tailed hypothesis?
  4. What is the critical z?
  5. Calculate the obtained z. Do you reject or fail to reject the null hypothesis?
  6. State in words what you have found.

Weinrich Manufacturing uses a job order cost system and applies overhead to production on the basis of direct labor hours. On January 1, 2011, Job No. 25 was the only job in process. The costs incurred prior to January 1 on this job were as follows: direct materials $10,000; direct labor $6,000; and manufacturing overhead $9,000. Job No. 23 had been completed at a cost of $42,000 and was part of finished goods inventory. There was a $5,000 balance in the Raw Materials Inventory account.

During the month of January, the company began production on Jobs 26 and 27, and completed Jobs 25 and 26. Jobs 23 and 25 were sold on account during the month for $63,000 and $74,000, respectively. The following additional events occurred during the month.

Explain why a school violence prevention program is important for today’s school environment.

Due to a growing number of social problems and an increase in the at-risk population over the past two years, as displayed on the Timeline of worldwide school and mass shootings acts of violence in schools have increased significantly with physical violence, cyber-bullying, and destruction of property.  Many principals have now initiated Preventing School Violence programs at their schools.

For this assignment, imagine that you have been given the task of constructing an intervention/prevention program aimed at either the high school or middle school level to reduce acts of violence. Write a paper or create a PowerPoint or Prezi presentation in which you:

  • Explain why a school violence prevention program is important for today’s school environment. Be sure to include whether you are focusing on high school or middle school students.
  • Describe features you would most want the program to have, citing at least four specific examples of programs or intervention strategies that apply to the level you have chosen.  Be sure to include the aspects to avoid in designing your program.
  • Outline at least five warning signs that a student might display prior to committing an act of violence.
  • Describe strategies to prevent school bullying.

Analyze and interpret visual and textual aspects of media.

OBJECTIVE: To critically analyze and interpret visual and textual aspects of media.

DESCRIPTION:  Choose a form of media that incorporates both visual and textual aspects (i.e. movies, music videos, CD artwork and song, children´s books with illustrations, cultural icons, or movie/book comparisons). You should write from an objective point of view as in most news and magazine articles. You should not just state the visual and textual elements, but you should also analyze them together with a new way of seeing the relationship between the visual and the textual. You will build on the observation and analytical skills employed in Paper One with the objective of exploring connections between written and visual texts.

You will be required to analyze elements of the visual text like image, layout, color, design, and lighting. You will also consider qualities of the written text, such as voice, tone, audience, and style. Then compare the two texts and how they work with and /or against each other. You will make a specific claim about the media´s ideas, values, and overall message and support this argument with details obtained through close observation and analysis.
