Discuss what you believe are the most critical things to consider when forming a team.

Watch the video from Karl McDonnell, CEO of Strayer University, titled “What behaviors do you look for when building your teams?” Discuss what you believe are the most critical things to consider when forming a team. Describe how this may or may not be different from what you thought prior to your readings and watching this video. Give an example of a time when you were on a team that was either well-formed or poorly-formed and give two to three (2-3) reasons as to why you feel this way.

Define the income and substitution effects of a wage change on hours of labor supply.

PROBLEM SET #1 Due in class on Thursday, February 4
Question 1:
a) Define the income and substitution effects of a wage change on hours of labor supply.
b) Given a particular wage, w, explain and show graphically an individual’s optimal choice of leisure (and labor supply). What equation holds at the optimal choice; in terms of the marginal rate of substitution (MRS), the marginal utilities for leisure (MUl) and consumption (MUc), and the wage (normalizing the price of consumption to one)?
c) Explain and show graphically the derivation of this individual’s labor supply curve – i.e., the relationship between wages and the individual’s desired hours of work.
d) Explain and show graphically the income and substitution effects of a wage increase on hours of work for the case in which an individual is on the backward-bending segment of the labor supply curve. Which effect dominates and what happens to overall hours supplied in this case?
Question 2:
Peggy is a single mother who currently does not work and has a two year-old child named Bud. Peggy’s concerned parents give her $30/day (non-labor income) to support her and Bud. Peggy has just interviewed for a job as a cashier at Kroger’s grocery store. They are willing to hire her at a wage of $8/hour. If Peggy takes the job, she will have to pay $20/day for childcare while she is at work. This question concerns Peggy’s decision on whether to take the job.
a) What is a reservation wage? Suppose that Peggy is unwilling to take the cashier’s job at the current offered wage of $8/hour. What does this imply about her reservation wage?
b) Suppose that Peggy can work at most 16 hours in a day and that if Peggy works even one hour she has to pay the $20 in childcare for Bud. Draw Peggy’s effective budget constraint and her indifference curve through her chosen point of not working which is consistent with what her preferences must be given that she chooses not to work at the current offered wage.
c) For the indifference curve you have drawn, show graphically Peggy’s reservation wage. Would she be more likely or less likely to take the job if her indifference curve was steeper than the one you have drawn? What does a steeper indifference curve imply about Peggy’s relative marginal utility of leisure? Suppose Kroger’s grocery store decides to offer free child care but does not change the wage they offered Peggy. Draw Peggy’s new budget constraint. Show graphically whether she is more or less likely to take the job now?
d) Suppose Marge, Peggy’s friend, was willing to work for Kroger’s grocery store at $7/hour. What might this imply about the shape of Marge’s indifference curves (i.e., her tastes) relative to Peggy’s? Is this necessarily the case? Explain.

Question 3:
Two types of programs that have been used historically to lift families out of poverty are: i) income maintenance programs such as Welfare (i.e., AFDC and TANF);
and ii) the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). Compare and contrast these programs in the following way:
a) Show graphically how they change an individual’s budget constraint?
b) How do they affect an individual’s incentive to work? Show graphically their income and substitution effects?
c) How do the magnitudes of the incentive effects depend on individuals’ preferences for leisure? In your explanation draw some indifference curves to fit your discussion.
d) What are the programs’ tradeoffs between maintaining work incentives versus providing income insurance against negative shocks to the family (e.g., high fixed costs of working, inability to find a job during an economic downturn).
Question 4: Similar to welfare programs, taxes may affect labor supply since taxes alter the effective wage (i.e., the after-tax wage actually received). For example, an individual earning $10/hour who faces a tax rate of 20- percent has an effective wage of $10/hour = (1−0.20)•$10. Let’s think about how taxes affect an individual’s budget constraint assuming that he/she has no non-labor income. Suppose Max earns a wage of $10/hour (i.e., before-tax wage) and he faces the following tax schedule: Income Tax Rate $0 − $20,000 0.10 $20,000 − $40,000 0.15 Over $40,000 0.20 a) Draw Max’s budget constraint. (Hint: Income ≡ y = (1 −τ)•w•h, where τ = tax rate; let’s assume h + l = 6,000, h = hours worked, l = leisure; the federal government determines taxes based on gross income, but an individual’s budget constraint represents purchasing power left after taxes). What are the slopes of his budget constraint in each tax bracket? How much leisure is consumed at each kink in the budget constraint (i.e., if Max’s optimal choice was at a kink, how much leisure would he have)? How does this budget constraint compare to the budget constraint that would exist if there were no taxes?
b) Policy makers often argue that decreasing tax rates would increase work incentives, sometimes even enough to increase tax revenues. According to neoclassical labor supply theory, is this necessarily true? Explain. How does your answer depend on the income and substitution effects?
c) Write down the standard regression equation to estimate the labor supply elasticity. Which regression coefficient is associated with an estimate of the labor supply elasticity? What have researchers estimated the labor supply elasticity to be for men? How can estimates of the labor supply elasticity help to crudely predict the effect of taxes on labor supply? (Incorporate the effect of a 15-percent decrease in taxes on labor supply in your answer.)

Consider differences between use of addictions assessment tools and clinical assessment tools.

Due Wednesday (Tomorrow) by 8 PM. No exceptions… Follow all guidelines.. Any questions ask please…

A client is typically referred to an addiction professional with myriad problems because addictions either directly or indirectly cause the problems, or the addiction is a byproduct of the problem. If clinical assessments provide an overview of a client’s background and situation, is a specific addictions assessment necessary? If an addictions assessment shows a client with depression and anxiety, is a clinical assessment necessary?

For this Assignment, you consider differences between use of addictions assessment tools and clinical assessment tools and the rationale behind each approach.

In a 1 full page answer (APA) please answer the following questions below? Using the learning resources provided.

What are some of the differences between the juvenile and adult criminal justice systems?

3-4 pages APA STLYE

use atleast 4 outside sources

Imagine that you are an attorney specializing in juvenile justice cases. You receive a phone call from Mrs. Ingrim, whose 15-year old has been arrested for stealing a car, driving without a license, and finally crashing the car into a storefront. Mrs. Ingrim is distraught and concerned that her child will be held in the county jail and abused. The maximum sentence that can be assessed is 6 years in prison to a minimum of 200 hours of community service and 2 weeks in the county’s boot camp program.

Please answer the following questions. As you answer each question, you must provide support or evidence that will enhance and empirically prove your answers. Academic criminal justice articles or real-life criminal justice findings that are not found in journals or other academic sources must be cited in supporting your answers. Please use APA style for all cited sources, including your References page.

  • How will you respond to Mrs. Ingrim? Provide a short narrative if necessary to demonstrate your approach toward the client.
  • What are the steps in the juvenile justice process that must be taken to defend Mrs. Ingrim’s teenager? Provide the steps and how you would approach the situation to ensure that every step is handled properly for this case.
  • What are some of the differences between the juvenile and adult criminal justice systems? How are the juvenile defendants handled differently from the adult defendants?
  • If you were the judge, how would you judge and sentence this case, understanding that the 15-year old committed the crime described?

Outline a plan that will allow you to identify the market structure in which your company now operates.

Use the updated demand (QD) and marginal revenue (MR) functions below to complete this assignment.

Due to changes in the low calorie, frozen, microwavable industry’s market structure, the firm-specific demand equation for our hypothetical company has changed and is now:

QD = 350,000 -100 P

This function generates the following Marginal Revenue Function (MR):

MR = 3500-0.02Q

Write a six to eight (6-8) page paper in which you:

1.  Outline a plan that will allow you to identify the market structure in which your company now operates. Comment on the relevant elasticity results from Assignment 1 and your research into two (2) of leading competitors in this industry, taking note of their pricing strategies, profitability, and their relationships within the industry (worldwide).

Note: In Assignment 1, the assumption was that the market structure was perfectly competitive and therefore the equilibrium price would be determined by setting demand equal to supply, or QD = QS. Changes in the market  now suggest it is imperfectly competitive and that your firm has substantial market power to set its own “optimal” price.

2.  Given that the market structure has changed from the original scenario in Assignment 1, determine at least two (2) likely factors that might have caused the change. Predict the primary manner in which this change would likely impact business operations in the new market environment.

3.  Analyze the major short run and long cost functions for the low-calorie, frozen microwaveable food company, given the cost functions below. Suggest substantive ways in which you may use this information to make production decisions in the short-run and the long-run.

  • TC = 160,000,000 + 100Q + 0.00632Q2
  • VC = 100Q + 0.00632Q2
  • MC= 100 + 0.0126Q
    • Hints: What is the equation for average total costs? How is this useful?
    • What is the output level and dollar value associated with minimum average total cost and minimum average variable costs?

4.  Determine the possible circumstances under which the company should discontinue operations. Suggest key actions that management should take in order to confront these circumstances. Provide a rationale for your response. (Hint: Your firm’s price must cover average variable costs in the short run and average total costs in the long run to continue operations.)

5.  Suggest a pricing policy that will enable your low-calorie, frozen microwavable food company to maximize profits. Provide a rationale for your suggestion.

  • (Hint: Use the profit maximization rule MR = MC to determine your optimal price and optimal output level. You may also want to compare these values with those you generated in Assignment 1 to determine whether your price would be higher or lower.

6.  Outline a plan, or use your results above, to evaluate the company’s financial performance. Consider all the key drivers of performance, such as total revenue, total cost, total profit, etc. Assuming the company is currently operating at its optimal scale (min. ATC = min. LRATC), what is the short run and long run strategy if current economic profits are positive … or negative?

  • Hint: To calculate profit in the short run, use the cost, price, and output levels you generated in part 5.
  • Hint: Profit in the long run will be driven to zero if no significant barriers to entry or exit exist.

7.  Recommend two (2) actions that the company could take in order to improve its profitability and deliver more value to its stakeholders. Outline, in brief, a plan to implement your recommendations.

8.  References: Use at least five (5) quality academic resources in this assignment.

What methods or techniques will you use to collect and preserve the evidence? Explain.

A man called the police and said that a body had fallen out of the sky and landed on his family car, which was parked in the driveway of his home. Initial canvassing of the area failed to locate any witnesses. The man who called the police was home with his family. They did not see the incident but reported hearing a loud thud and glass breaking.

You are the crime scene investigator. When you arrive at the scene, you find what you thought was a bizarre call is in fact true. You see the mangled body of a Caucasian man and a partially deployed parachute streaming in the mild breeze. You also note that the deceased’s reserve chute has not opened. Closer examination of the scene reveals that the deceased is wearing a leg bag containing about 20 lbs. of cocaine and U.S. currency totaling $28,000.00.

The victim had in his possession 2 state ID cards, one from California: Andrew Jackson, DOB 01-05-60, 1419 Petulia Drive, Santa Cruz, CA. The second ID is from Texas: Paul Smith, DOB 05-01-61, 268 Ridge Boulevard, Crawford, TX.

Assignment Guidelines

  • Address the following in 4 pages and no more then 25% plaigiarism:
    • In detail, explain the steps that you will take and the techniques that you will use to process from arrival until the scene is relinquished.
      • Prepare a comprehensive list of how the scene should be documented.
        • Create and include a crime scene sketch. Use your own neighborhood to fabricate any necessary details.
          • You may then draw and scan the sketch or use any software application of your choice.
      • Prepare a comprehensive list of at least 25 questions that need to be answered about the scene and the body.
      • Prepare a list of evidence that will be collected from the scene and from the body.
        • What methods or techniques will you use to collect and preserve the evidence? Explain.
      • Conduct a background investigation to develop logical leads, which would include an AFIS inquiry, applicable forensics analysis, and any other leads you determine to be appropriate.
  • Be sure to reference all sources using APA style

Discuss the logic of the legality of tobacco and alcohol versus the illegality of marijuana.

M6D2: Subjective Legality

First, give some thought to what you’ve learned regarding the similarities and differences between tobacco, alcohol and marijuana on the variables of: health risk, public safety, potential for abuse and whether they are approved by the U.S. Federal government for medical use. Based on your own analysis:

Discuss the logic of the legality of tobacco and alcohol versus the illegality of marijuana. Regardless of your personal opinion, where do you find empirically-based logic in the current status of these three substances? Where can you offer empirical support for an alternative status that would be “logical”? If you see no logic at all, discuss and explain.

Illustrate the impact of organizational goals and objectives, structure, culture, environment, ethics policies, and incentive systems on ethical behavior within an organization.

below Project)

A full-sentence outline helps you create the structure of your paper and the topic sentences of your paragraphs at the same time. Think of this document as your blueprint for the final paper. By approaching the outline in this way, you can more easily move paragraphs around and edit the flow of the paper before you write the full paper. This makes editing for the flow of information easier.

Create a full-sentence outline for your paper. Each sentence will act as a topic sentence for a new paragraph in your paper. The entire paper should be outlined using this method. This will allow your instructor to provide feedback to you about the information flow in your paper.

Example:

Your outline must use APA formatting, and be Times New Roman, 12-point font, with one inch margins. Include a title page for your assignment.

M8A1 Individual Research Project: Final Paper

One of the most beneficial exercises in a course exploring ethics is to develop a paper that allows you the opportunity to create connections between your personal view of ethics and the theory under discussion. The nature of ethical decision making is recognition, analysis and resolution. We often don’t make a decision because it’s ethical, but rather, because it makes sense from our personal view of the situation. That is, ethical decisions happen “after the fact” as we begin to see the actual implications of the decision.

With this in mind, your paper should explore current ethical issues in the workplace that are relevant to your current career or the career that you are preparing to pursue. Your task is to begin to explore the possible issues within your workplace and choose one to focus on throughout the course as you begin to build your final paper. Please consider the following as possible approaches for this final paper:

  • Illustrate the impact of organizational goals and objectives, structure, culture, environment, ethics policies, and incentive systems on ethical behavior within an organization.
  • Evaluate and revise an ethics program to increase ethical behavior within an organizational environment.
  • Create and systematically apply a defensible ethical moral framework to a contemporary ethics issue. To systematically apply the ethical moral framework, you must use the framework consistently as you describe the ethics issue. Explore the issue using the framework you create. HINT: This is done through the application of one of the theories we read about in Module 1.

The final paper is your opportunity to delve into a topic within the framework of ethics that you find interesting, based on your approved topic and thesis statement.

  • Focus your paper on the connection between your topic and ethics theory. You must use your approved topic.
    • You must support your views. While your opinions are important, they are not sufficient for a discussion for this type of paper. The academic connections are crucial.
  • The paper should be 5-8 pages in length (not including the title and reference page).
  • The paper should follow APA 6th Edition guidelines for all formatting:
    • 1” margins
    • 12-point Times New Roman font
    • Double-spaced
  • Use your full-sentence outline to build the paper. This creates the blueprint for the final paper.
  • The paper should have the following sections:
    • Introduction: State what you are going to tell me in the body of the paper. This is a synopsis of the point of the paper. The thesis statement resides here.
    • Body of the paper: This is the place where you pull your research together and develop your points. It should include:
      • An overview of the ethics theory you are using.
      • A connection of the theory to your topic.
      • A discussion about the impact of the topic and theory.
    • Conclusion: Restate what you have told me. This is your last opportunity to make your point, answer your question, or argue a perspective.
  • Don’t forget the importance of the transitions between paragraphs and sections. I should be able to read the last sentence of one paragraph and the first sentence of the next paragraph and see the connection. HINT: This is a good way to test whether you have effective transitions.
  • Grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence structure, and paragraph structure matter: Spend time editing your paper. This means that you need to at least give yourself a three-day cooling off period between finishing the paper and editing the paper. This really does make a difference in what you catch and correct.

Describe how organizations can design systems that support ethical behavior, while also providing incentives for high levels of performance.

M6D1: How Should We Get Paid?

Incentive systems develop and are embedded in the structure of an organization. The design of incentive systems needs to account for the ethical dimension. When incentive systems do not consider the ethical dimensions, they can act like a trap. Employees earn additional pay through an incentive that is often tied to specific criteria associated with financial performance. When employees pursue the incentives, they can find themselves trapped in an unethical dilemma. Issues often arise when the incentive system creates a conflict of interest for the employee or manager.

Incentive system design is completely under the control of the organization. There is a need for companies to reconcile the need for organizations to maximize business profits through motivating employees with the need for ethical behavior (Hollis & Yakhou, 2008) through a focus on long-term objectives versus short-term profits.

For your discussion:

  • Use the EC Library to locate an article that addresses the ethical issues associated with performance-based incentive systems. This article can be a peer reviewed research-based journal article or a magazine/newspaper story.
  • Analyze the issue and devise an adaptation of the incentive system discussed in the article to increase ethical behavior.
    • This might mean that you offer an alternative to a strictly sales-based incentive system.
    • Consider the three major approaches (utilitarian, rights and duties, and fairness and justice) when discussing your alternative.
  • Describe how organizations can design systems that support ethical behavior, while also providing incentives for high levels of performance
