Compilation of Modules 1-8

Directions: This course project will include a written component for each module that will be turned in at the end of the course in Module 8. Criminology is the study of crime and criminal behaviors based on theory. Your textbook defines a theory as a series of interrelated propositions that attempts to describe, explain, predict, and ultimately control some class of events. A theory gains explanatory power from inherent logical consistency and is “tested” by how well it describes and predicts reality. To assist you with this project, the textbook defines theories throughout. The theories associated with criminology can be applied to the crimes we see committed in the news each week. Thus, this course project will involve locating two crimes (one in your local or nearly surrounding communities and one national) and applying the crimes you locate to one of the theories learned in this course.

For example: Situational Choice Theory could be related to a crime of robbing a person because this type of crime often depends on the situation involved, such as a victim being in the right place at the right time and other factors that lends to the ability to commit the crime, including location, time of day, environmental factors, and the victim being alone and in possession of items the offender desires.

Requirements: For each module, locate a local and national crime, describe the details and source of the crime (also be sure to keep a reference page with all the sources used throughout the course project). Identify an appropriate theory learned during this course, describe the theory, and then explain how the theory relates to the crime chosen. Thus, each part should require at least one paragraph as follows:

1. Chosen description and details of the crime
2. Chosen Theory, including definition and founder
3. Explanation of how the chosen theory relates to the chosen crime.

Repeat this process for each crime – one local and one national for a total of a minimum of six paragraphs per Module. Sources of crimes include newspapers, websites, television news stations, etc. You can use theories repeatedly for this project; however, try to use varying theories to demonstrate an understanding of as many course criminological theories as possible.

Be sure to include APA formatting, including a cover page, in-text citations, and a reference page (please visit the Academic Resource Center for concise APA guidelines). For each module, be sure to include the date with either Local or National next to the date as the title for that module assignment. Note that there must be two titles for each module (one for local and one for national). Grading will be in part on ensuring that the course project included both a local and national component for each module. Thus, the final project should have a minimum of 16 Crimes with Theories Applied (two per module). You will also be graded on your APA formatting, reference page, grammar, and spelling.

In trial courts, witnesses are heard, testimony is received, exhibits are offered into evidence, and a verdict is rendered. The trial court structure in Texas has several different levels, each level handling different types of cases, with some overlap.

Here is a definition of our Municipal Courts:
Under its authority to create such other courts as may be necessary, the Texas Legislature has created municipal courts in each of the incorporated cities of the State. Municipal courts serve the larger cities, the number depending upon the population of the city and the needs of the public.
These courts have original and exclusive jurisdiction over violations of city ordinances and, within the city limits, have concurrent jurisdiction with justice of the peace courts over Class C misdemeanor criminal cases where the punishment upon conviction is by small fine only. When city ordinances relating to fire safety, zoning, public health, or sanitation are violated, fines of up to $2,000 may be charged, when authorized by the governing body of the city. Municipal judges may issue search or arrest warrants. These courts do not have jurisdiction in most civil cases but do have limited civil jurisdiction in cases, which involve owners of dangerous dogs.
Art. 4.14. JURISDICTION OF MUNICIPAL COURT. (a) A municipal court, including a municipal court of record, shall have exclusive original jurisdiction within the territorial limits of the municipality in all criminal cases that:
(1) arise under the ordinances of the municipality; and
(2) are punishable by a fine not to exceed:
(A) $2,000 in all cases arising under municipal ordinances that governs fire safety, zoning, or public health and sanitation, other than the dumping of refuse;
(B) $4,000 in cases arising under municipal ordinances that govern the dumping of refuse; or
(C) $500 in all other cases arising under a municipal ordinance.
(b) The municipal court shall have concurrent jurisdiction with the justice court of a precinct in which the municipality is located in all criminal cases arising under state law that:
(1) arise within the territorial limits of the municipality and are punishable by fine only, as defined in Subsection (c) of this article; or
(2) arise under Chapter 106, Alcoholic Beverage Code, and do not include confinement as an authorized sanction.
(c) In this article, an offense which is punishable by “fine only” is defined as an offense that is punishable by fine and such sanctions, if any, as authorized by statute not consisting of confinement in jail or imprisonment.
(d) The fact that a conviction in a municipal court has as a consequence the imposition of a penalty or sanction by an agency or entity other than the court, such as a denial, suspension, or revocation of a privilege, does not affect the original jurisdiction of the municipal court.
(e) The municipal court has jurisdiction in the forfeiture and final judgment of all bail bonds and personal bonds taken in criminal cases of which the court has jurisdiction.
(f) A municipality with a population of 1.19 million or more and another municipality contiguous to that municipality may enter into an agreement providing concurrent jurisdiction for the municipal courts of either jurisdiction for all criminal cases arising from offenses under state law that are:
(1) committed on the boundary of those municipalities or within 200 yards of that boundary; and
(2) punishable by fine only.
(g) A municipality may enter into an agreement with a contiguous municipality or a municipality with boundaries that are within one-half mile of the municipality seeking to enter into the agreement to establish concurrent jurisdiction of the municipal courts in the municipalities and provide original jurisdiction to a municipal court in which a case is brought as if the municipal court were located in the municipality in which the case arose, for:
(1) all cases in which either municipality has jurisdiction under Subsection (a); and
(2) cases that arise under Section 821.022, Health and Safety Code.

Again, utilizing the CSU Online Library, you will research the various elements of the marketing plan as it relates to this company. This section will provide a comprehensive look at the products, product lines, and services that are offered by your company. This will include discussions about the quality of the product/service and other additions such as warranties, installation, service plans, or unique packaging features that are included with the product (if pertinent). Include a discussion of whether your company’s products/services would be considered business-to-consumer (B2C) or businessto-business (B2B).Branding is also considered a part of the product offering, thus a discussion of the branding efforts associated with your company and the importance of said branding in the overall product offering should be included. A competitive advantage is an important goal of every company, address whether your company has a competitive advantage WITH RESPECT TO PRODUCT. The idea is to discuss whether your company has a competitive advantage with respect to their product offering and the attributes associated with product as discussed above. Competitive advantage with respect to promotion, place, and pricing will be discussed in later sections of the marketing plan. Once you have stated your position, remember to include your rationale.
