1.       Explain why scientific accounts of the time were different than they are now (starts on p. 32). What form did scientific accounts of the time tend to take and why was Socrates unhappy with Anaxagoras’ account?

 

2.       Sophists were a big deal during Socrates’ time (and not in a good way). Socrates was actually accused of being a Sophist at one point in the Apologia. Who were the sophists? (p. 38) How did Socrates feel about them and why was he accused of being one?

1.       Who are the lovers of knowledge and what knowledge do they possess? How does this, for Plato through the mouthpiece of Socrates, equate to knowledge? (starts on p. 14 as well and the differences between the two is re-emphasized on p. 18)

2.       The “Categories” is the reason why Aristotle is considered the father of biology, which was another of his big contributions. How does Aristotle define substance in terms of his divisions of living things?

1.       The dream argument is one of Descartes’ most famous positions in his Meditations. Explain the dream argument in detail. What does his argument call into question and why? (starts on p. 23)

1.       On page 50, Moore lists a number of “truisms.” Identify a few of these truisms and how he claims to know them.

 

2.       On page 54, Moore writes, if “they are features of the ‘common sense view of the world’ it follows they are true. What is this view of common sense and why is Moore specifically proposing this take on common sense (i.e. what is his piece railing against or disputing or why does he believe a common sense approach need be taken)?

Assignment 2.1: Justification Report – Part 1

Due Week 3 and worth 150 points

In Assignments 2.1, 2.2, and 2.3, you will be building up a formal, researched justification report (one part at a time) that culminates in a recommendation to implement a particular product, service, or program in your place of employment. This recommended product, service, or program should resolve a problem that you identify in your workplace and should be directed to your employer (even if you do not actually plan to share it with your employer).

Use the basic outline below to draft Assignment 2. Organize your responses to each question under the following section headings:

• Problem Statement (for Question 1)
• Overview of Alternatives (for Question 2)
• Criteria (for Question 3)
• Methods (for Question 4)

Using the provided template, write Part 1 of a single-spaced report in which you:

1. Discuss in detail a problem at work, persuading and convincing the reader that it needs fixing.
2. Provide a detailed description of two (2) possible solutions (“alternatives”) that could be implemented to resolve the problem identified in Question 1.
3. List and detail five (5) criteria that you will use to measure the worth of each alternative in Question 2. Note: The alternative that satisfies the most criteria to the highest degree will be the one you recommend later to your employer (in Assignment 2.3). Chapters 5 and 6 in your text discuss several iconic experiments in memory that have helped us learn about our memory system. After reading about the experiments, select one of the optional articles featured in the module resources and provide a brief critique of the experiment and its application to the real world. Think back to an organisation where you enjoyed working. What were the top three reasons that you enjoyed working there? For many, one of those responses is the people. Now, think about the people that were at that organisation. Was everyone the same, or were they a diverse group of people. Within a diverse group, do you think team members would complement or detract from your skills and abilities?

 

As innovation processes depend on harnessing creativity, and while dynamic as well as supportive systems of management can elicit the best from staff, like-minded people will usually produce like-minded results. Diversity in the workforce can, however, help companies to break this mould and the cycle of limited unilateral thinking and, in so doing, set them free to discover new products, markets, and ways of doing or leading business.

Although you may understand the reasoning behind diversity within an organisation, it may be more difficult to explain to others who have primarily worked with like-minded people. As a manager, you may be called upon to train others about the purpose of diversity management within an organisation. Consider how you would explain the benefits and costs of diversity management to your assigned organisation, as well the potential issues that may arise from your organisation building a more diverse workforce. Opening a new overseas office

Lanx, a UK-based, textile-manufacturing firm is opening a new plant in Delhi, India. Lanx has enjoyed marked growth in the UK and determines that it can reduce long-term manufacturing costs by having a presence in Delhi. Selected current Lanx managers, who are all UK nationals and have worked in the UK-office for more than 5 years, will relocate and manage Delhi employees onsite. The selected Lanx managers were chosen for their company experience, performance record and ability to lead diverse groups. However, none of the selected managers has had extensive intercultural communication training.

In this highly competitive business environment, businesses are constantly seeking ways to gain traction and understand what is on the minds of current customers and potential customers in order to increase business efficiency. Many companies have turned to business intelligence (BI) and data analytics.

Use the Internet or Strayer Library to research articles on data analytics. Select one (1) industry or one (1) company that is currently using data analytics. Use the industry / company you have selected as the basis for your written paper.

Write a four to six (4-6) page paper in which you:

1. Define data analytics in general and provide a brief overview of the evolution of utilizing data analytics in business.
2. Analyze the main advantages and disadvantages of using data analytics within the industry or company that you have chosen.
