Confucianism

The first paragraph of the manuscript is the formal introduction and should forecast the essay.  It consists of four key elements: a hook, thesis statement, supporting sentences, and a transition sentence.  The hook is designed to grab the reader’s attention.  For this assignment, it could be about the impact of Confucianism in modern culture.  Consider using statistics, a brief quote, or anecdote.  The thesis statement is one, declarative statement that reflects the main idea of the entire manuscript; it is the cornerstone of the paper, so give it careful thought.  Supporting sentences prepare the reader for the manuscript by identifying key points to be explored.  Avoid phrases such as, “This paper will discuss…”  A key to successful supporting sentences is to examine the outline of the paper and create two or three sentences that cluster these ideas in a fluid manner.  This paper has three key objectives.  The transition sentence is the hand off to the next paragraph.  For more details about the introduction, as well as an example, visit the Center for Writing Excellence > Tutorials & Guides > Essay Development [heading] > Guidelines for Writing Academic Essays > Organizing the Essay > Writing the Introduction.

Five Great Relationships

This section should describe the Five Great Relationships.  Identify each one, in one or two sentences explain what it is about and give an example.  Cite sources using APA.  The paragraph should be approximately 100 words.

Ideal Person

This section should explain how the Ideal Person should act.  Be sure to mention the junzi and what the qualities of the ideal person are.  Cite your source of information using APA.  The paragraph should be approximately 100 words.

Confucianism Today

The last section should summarize the role of Confucianism in Chinese current culture and society today.  Be sure to cite a source.  This section should be approximately 100 words.

Conclusion

The conclusion is a single paragraph that summarizes the paper much like the introduction prepared the reader.  Restate the thesis to remind the reader of the main idea.  Summarize the highlights, but do not introduce anything new.  End with some final thoughts or a pronouncement the leaves the reader pondering.

For this unityou were required to pick one of the Wartenberg readings and master it and post on it for your peers.   For this writing assignment you will utilize the reading that you chose to demonstrate it as a methodology to compare and contrast a work of art or architecture from each chapter in this unit (27,28, &29) Your essay should be 3-5 pages and have at least 5 paragraphs.  An intro paragraph on the framework that you are taking from the readings, a paragraph for each work of art you chose and a paragraph in conclusion.

One example might be the excerpt in your text from Walter Benjamin’s essay “The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction”.  I might pick Daumier, Kasebier, & Hoch.  We could then look at the auratic difference between the lithograph, the photograph and the mechanical image collaged.  The intro and conclusion would frame the discussion that would take place on each of the images.

Communication tools must be used strategically. They shouldn’t be used simply because they sound entertaining, but should be employed when they are appropriate for a particular program goal. Appropriateness means not only how well it works but also how ethical it is. Consider the water sanitation program created by Water Missions Belize, which is depicted in the media throughout this course. Think about the type of information the organization is privy to with its close work with schools and community leaders, and the cultural implications of the business they conduct. What might some of the benefits be to this organization for using social media to enlist partnerships or funding? Identify one situation or context (describing follower and task characteristics) in which you will practice these skills. Be specific. This course is about leadership, not management, and thus you can be a leader without having an official position or title. Many of you will not have had, or be in an official leader or manager role, but you can certainly be a leader among you peers.
