Concept Analysis Paper –
Concept analysis is used to explore the meaning of a concept to further the
understanding of the concept. A research of the literature will help to define the
meaning of the concept.
Concept analysis is used to:
Identity gaps in nursing knowledge
Determine the need to refine or clarify a concept (a phenomenon of
interest); clarify the meaning of terms
Evaluate the adequacy of competing concepts
Determine the fit between the definition of the concept and its clinical
Application
Using the reading assignment (McEwen & Wills, Theoretical Basis for Nursing,
Unit III: Shared Theories Used by Nurses, Chapter 16: Theories, Models, and
Frameworks from Administration and Management), develop a concept analysis
paper.

This may offer some ideas as to how to structure your research efforts when you
write the paper

Why is this concept important for nurses?
What are the different classifications and definitions that have been?
uncovered, and how are they used and measured?
What are the consequences for the nursing staff when a particular type of
leadership or management theory is used?
Include in your concept analysis paper:
An introduction

A discussion of various forms of the concept selected, including
classifications, manifestations, and measurement of the concept, causes, and
consequences

Conclusion/Summary: Identify real conclusions, not just a summary/repetition
of the findings

For your Signature Assignment, you will undertake an analysis based on a self-designed fictitious study that utilizes statistical analyses. You will first develop a fictitious problem to examine. For example, maybe you want to look at whether scores on a standardized college placement test (such as the SAT) are related to the level of income a person makes 10 years after college, or whether those who participate in a Leadership Training program were later rated as better managers compared to those who did not take the training, or whether political affiliation is related to gender. These are just a few examples: Be creative and think about what piques your interest. You might also address a problem that you may want to look at in future research for a thesis or dissertation. You will use either EXCEL or SPSS to conduct the analysis. Write an analysis report in which you must include the following:
Describe your research study.
State a hypothesis.
List and explain the variables you would collect in this study. There must be a minimum of three variables and two must meet the assumptions for a correlational analysis.
Create a fictitious data set that you will analyze. The data should have a minimum of 30 cases, but not more than 50 cases.
Conduct a descriptive data analysis that includes the following: a) a measure of central tendency; b) a measure of dispersion and c) at least one graph
Briefly interpret the descriptive data analysis.
Conduct the appropriate statistical test that will answer your hypothesis. It must be a statistical test covered in this course such as regression analysis, single t-test, independent t-test, cross-tabulations, Chi-square, or One-Way ANOVA. Explain your justification for using the test based on the type of data and the level of measurement that the data lends to for the statistical analysis.
Report and interpret your findings. Use APA style and include a statement about whether you reject or fail to reject the null hypothesis.
