What is the difference between Entine and Jennings’ eight questions and traditional measures of social responsibility?

Entine and Jennings (Case 3.3, p. 104) note that there are eight questions that should be answered about a company to determine the character of its soul:

  1. Does the company comply with the law?
  2. Does the company have a sense of propriety?
  3. How honestly do product claims match with reality?
  4. How forthcoming is the company with information?
  5. How does the company treat its employees?
  6. How does the company handle third-party ethics issues?
  7. How charitable is the company?
  8. How does the company react when faced with negative disclosures?

Develop a blog aimed at assessing corporate social responsibility. Be sure to address the following:

  • Contrast the Entine and Jennings’ views with those of Friedman and Freeman, found within your text.
  • What is the difference between Entine and Jennings’ eight questions and traditional measures of social responsibility?
  • Would the model mean that Fannie Mae could be labeled an “honest” company? Why or why not?

Discuss the effects of consumer demand on medical care services.

The United States has a great consumer demand for health care services. The supply of these services or products, such as new medications or medical equipment, is affected by many factors.

Select a service or product that may be in demand by the health care consumer now or in the future.

Write a 1,050- to 1,400-word paper on your selected service or product that discusses the effects of consumer demand on medical care services or products versus the economic variables of cost, access, and supply. Support your perspective and rationale for the continued provision of a current service, or for the implementation of a new service or product, based on economic principles or supply chain models.

Describe to what extent you believe the intent of the photographic series contributes to the telling of a subjective or objective story.

prepare for this Discussion:

  • Read the Jonathan Jones article from this week’s Learning Resources.
  • Review the websites in this week’s Learning Resources for more inspiration and examples of photographs.
  • Review your partner’s Final Project photographic series, which was submitted to this week’s Discussion as part of last week’s Final Project Assignment.
  • Consider the following questions regarding process in your partner’s photographic series:
    • To what extent is the work subjective or objective?
    • Would you consider the series conventional or challenging? Why?
    • What is the purpose of the elements used and the order in which the photographs appear in the series?
    • Are the photographs in the series clearly planned, or do they appear in a random presentation in order to gain more of an emotional reaction?
    • Was the series more of a documentary to report a situation to the viewer, or was the intent of the series to express or persuade the viewer to have or express a particular attitude?
    • Are the photographs in the series simple or complex compositions? How does this affect the intended viewpoint and understanding of the viewer?
    • Have delay tactics been used to create interest or ambiguity in the composition of the photographs in the series?
    • What is the style of the photographs in this series?

With these thoughts in mind:

Post by Day 3 a critique of your partner’s Final Project photographic series (Approximately 2–3 paragraphs). Consider each of the following:

  • Evaluate how the content and composition of the photographic series is presented either clearly or ambiguously to the viewer. Explain to what extent these choices may influence the viewer’s perception of the series.
  • Analyze how the subjects in the photographic series relate to each other.
  • Describe to what extent you believe the intent of the photographic series contributes to the telling of a subjective or objective story.

Cite at least one example from the course readings to support your answer.

Describe how you might approach photography differently after this course.

Throughout this course, you have become familiar with fundamental photographic concepts. Understanding these fundamentals may help you not only take better photographs but also see your subject matter, your community, and the world from a different perspective. In this Reflection, consider the knowledge and skills you have gained in this course and how they have affected your photographic style.

To prepare for this Assignment:

  • Review the Jonathan Jones article from this week’s Learning Resources.
  • Consider the effect of composing photographs using the fundamental principles of photography you have studied in this course.
  • Consider the purpose of having a process and intent when composing photographs for the viewer.
  • Review the examples of photographs demonstrating fundamental principles of photography you have produced for this course.
  • Reflect on the changes you have seen in your own photographic style.

The Assignment:

  • Write a 2- to 3-page paper assessing how the fundamental principles of photography are reflected in the way you communicate messages or stories.
  • Assess how these fundamental principles of photography are reflected in the way you view your community and the world.
  • Describe how you might approach photography differently after this course.
  • What photographic skills have you strengthened since the beginning of this course?
  • Be sure to cite at least one example from the course readings to support your answers.

Identify the pathophysiological mechanisms of chronic asthma and acute asthma exacerbation.

Application: Asthma

Complications of asthma can be sudden. Consider the case of Bradley Wilson, a young boy who had several medical conditions. He appeared in good health when he went to school, returned home, and ate dinner. However, when he later went outside to play, he came back inside wheezing. An ambulance took him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead (Briscoe, 2012). In another case, 10-year-old Dynasty Reese, who had mild asthma, woke up in the middle of the night and ran to her grandfather’s bedroom to tell him she couldn’t breathe. By the time paramedics arrived, she had passed out and was pronounced dead at the hospital (Glissman, 2012). These situations continue to outline the importance of recognizing symptoms of asthma and providing immediate treatment, as well as distinguishing minor symptoms from serious, life-threatening symptoms. Since these symptoms and attacks are often induced by a trigger, as an advanced practice nurse, you must be able to help patients identify their triggers and recommend appropriate treatment options. For this reason, you need to understand the pathophysiological mechanisms of chronic asthma and acute asthma exacerbation.

To prepare:

  • Review “Asthma” in Chapter 26 of the Huether and McCance text. Identify the pathophysiological mechanisms of chronic asthma and acute asthma exacerbation. Consider how these disorders are similar and different.
  • Select a patient factor different from the one you selected in this week’s Discussion: genetics, gender, ethnicity, age, or behavior. Think about how the factor you selected might impact the pathophysiology of both disorders. Reflect on how you would diagnose and prescribe treatment of these disorders for a patient based on the factor you selected.
  • Review the “Mind maps—Dementia, Endocarditis, and Gastro-oesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)” media in the Week 2 Learning Resources. Use the examples in the media as a guide to construct two mind maps—one for chronic asthma and one for acute asthma exacerbation. Consider the epidemiology and clinical presentation of both chronic asthma and acute asthma exacerbation.

To complete:

Write a 2- to 3-page paper that addresses the following:

  • Describe the pathophysiological mechanisms of chronic asthma and acute asthma exacerbation. Be sure to explain the changes in the arterial blood gas patterns during an exacerbation.
  • Explain how the factor you selected might impact the pathophysiology of both disorders. Describe how you would diagnose and prescribe treatment for a patient based on the factor you selected.
  • Construct two mind maps—one for chronic asthma and one for acute asthma exacerbation. Include the epidemiology, pathophysiology, and clinical presentation, as well as the diagnosis and treatment you explained in your paper.

Identify and provide rationales for nursing interventions used to promote medication adherence.

cenario: During a quality improvement (QI) meeting at ECHO Hospital there is discussion about the increased number of patient readmissions related to medication non-adherence.

Using the information above and the assigned readings create a discussion post in response to the following:

  • Discuss at least three (3) areas for assessment which may indicate why patients do not adhere to their medication regimen.
  • What would be an appropriate outcome (realistic, measureable and contains a time frame) for patients in this situation?
  • Identify and provide rationales for at least three (3) nursing interventions used to promote medication adherence.
  • Identify three (3) members of the healthcare team with whom the RN could coordinate and communicate patients’ needs regarding medication adherence.
  • Provide a rationale for the selection of each of the above team members.

How does the RN support the patient’s decision when the beliefs of the patient are contrary their own?

Scenario: Michael, a 35-year-old was brought via ambulance to the emergency department after collapsing on the street. He was diagnosed with appendicitis and the surgical team was alerted to the potential surgery. The physician prepared to obtain informed consent and began discussing the simple effective surgery and the treatment with the patient. The RN was present at the bedside. The patient stated he did not want surgery. Based upon his beliefs as a Christian Scientist, it is against his practices. He requested a Christian Science practitioner. The patient rated his pain as 9 on 0-10 verbal pain scale so the RN prepared the narcotic analgesic to relieve the patient’s pain. The patient declined the medication. The RN believes the patient should accept the pain medication and have the surgery thinking “If it were me I would proceed with the surgery and treatments proposed by the surgeon.” The surgeon can be heard speaking to a colleague about how to go about changing the patient’s decision.

How does the RN support the patient’s decision when the beliefs of the patient are contrary their own? List at least three actions (with supporting rationales) the RN would perform to ensure the delivery of culturally sensitive care.
