Unit III PowerPoint Presentation

Open Source Software Research Project

Research an open source software project. Examples of open source projects are listed on page 123 of your textbook.

You are not restricted to the open source projects listed on page 123; you may research one of your own choosing that

interests you.

In MS PowerPoint, create a presentation with slides that describe the open source software and how it works. Discuss the role this open source software has in management information systems.

Remember, management information

systems is the management and use of information systems that help organizations achieve their strategies (page 10 of your textbook)

.

Your PowerPoint must have a minimum of four slides. Be sure to use the 7X7 rule in PowerPoint: no more than 7 lines per slide and no more than 7 words per line. Use of images, graphics, and diagrams is encouraged. Be sure to include your sources on a references slide in APA format

Discuss the system implementation that results in the acceptance, rejection, or modification of the project.

First, you will work on the user trainingphase of the system implementation, considering the following:

  • Planning for training
  • Contents of training
  • Methods of training
  • Location of training
  • Schedule of training
  • Resources needed
  • Training the trainer
  • Conducting the training
  • Additional periodic ongoing trainings
  • Computer-assisted training

Complete the section in a 3–5-page.

Second, this week is final phase of the system implementation that results in the acceptance, rejection, or modification of the project, and release, suspension, or deduction of the contracted amount to the vendor(s)—system maintenance. Compose a brief (2-page) summary of how you will:

  • Ensure that all hardware work together.
  • Ensure that every function of every application of the computer system works and the system meets the functional requirements and the RFP specifications.
  • Ensure that data between different systems interfaces and is transferred smoothly and in correct format.
  • Ensure correct transference of data from old to new system (conversion testing).
  • Ensure that the system can work under maximum load (volume/stress testing).
  • Verify that the system works as expected in a live environment.

Identify three careers that seemed best suited for you.

Assignment 2: Conducting a Job Search

An undergraduate psychology degree provides you with some flexibility when selecting a career. The knowledge of how people think, develop, and behave, as well as the interpersonal skills gained from a BA in psychology may lead to work in the field, but also prepares you well for careers in the fields of public service, marketing, or management, among others. Because most professional careers in psychology require further education, those who do not wish to pursue graduate degrees may need to broaden the scope of careers they are willing to consider.

In M1 Assignment 2, you explored your career interests and identified three careers that seemed best suited for you. In this assignment, you will conduct a mock job search and report your findings using the “Job Search Data Bank” form.

Mock Job Search

Select one of the three careers you identified and discussed in M1 Assignment 2and conduct a job search for actual openings in your area. If you are willing to eventually relocate, you may choose openings elsewhere as well. You may choose to use at least one source or all of the following sources to find available positions in your chosen career of interest:

  • Local newspaper ads (online or printed editions)
  • Networking websites such as LinkedIn
  • Networking with colleagues, peers, or other contacts
  • Your state employment office
  • Listings on professional organizations’ websites

Refer to the “Job Resources” document to find additional online sources relating to online job searches.

Job Search Data Bank

Click here to download and review a copy of the “Job Search Data Bank” template. Provide the results of the mock job search you completed for this assignment by filling out the table in the template.

  • Begin by summarizing your career interests. Briefly describe what you concluded from Module 1 about the types of positions best suited to your career interests. For example, if you are most interested in a career as a psychologist, would you prefer to pursue a position in a clinic, a private practice, or a nonprofit organization? Would you prefer to specialize in working with children? Do you hope to have a research or teaching position instead?
  • List at least four positions you found during your job search. These four positions should match the interests you identified in Module 1.
    • Describe each position fully, providing as much of the available information as possible from the ads. Copy the ads and paste them into the table.
  • For each identified job opening, indicate the likelihood of your being eligible for the position upon graduating from college with a bachelor’s degree.
    • If you would be ineligible, specify what additional training or education you would require to qualify for the position.
    • Indicate whether you are willing to pursue that additional training or education.
    • Describe the amount of time, the cost, and other resources you think you would need to invest to become qualified.
  • Put the information in your own words. Place quotation marks around the portions you have quoted from the ads. Cite your sources using APA style in-text citations and a reference list in APA style below your table in the “Job Search Data Bank” template provided.

Assignment 3: Community Agency Observation

This project will continue until the end of the course, where the cumulative project is submitted in Module 5.

Develop a Community Agency Observation project that would be of approximately ten hours duration in total at a community organization in your town or city. • Analyze how those critical incidents affected your cultural self-awareness and professional relationship, specific to the provision of culturally competent services.
  • Apply a multicultural and interdisciplinary approach to generate a proposal on what the organization can do to improve its service delivery in a population from diverse cultural or ethnic backgrounds.
  • For each observation visit in Modules 3, 4, and 5, you must complete a copy of the weekly self-reflection and process worksheet. Remember to write clearly and check spelling and grammar because these sheets will be included in your final product. Click here to access the template.

What is the property in question (what question is asked of the sample population)?

ASSIGNMENT: Find two public opinion polls from 2012 (it is an election year, so MANY polls are available!!!) or 2013, one of which offers weak support for its conclusion, the other of which offers strong support for its conclusion. Answer the following questions about each of the polls:

  1. What is the sample size, and is the sample size large enough to avoid hastiness?
  2. From where was the sample population taken (what types of people are included in the sample)?
  3. What was the methodology in selecting the sample? Was it randomly selected? If so, explain the precise method of random selection (Do not simply say “telephone survey.” Do not simply say “randomly selected telephone survey. Be specific! Do not say “the survey did not say how the sample was selected.” Choose a survey from a polling organization that does reveal the method of selecting the sample, or do research on the survey or polling organization by going to their web site.  You must have a precise and detailed answer to this question! See the sample assignment submission PDF for an example of how this question can be answered relatively successfully.) Or was the sample selected in some other way, i.e. self-selection?
  4. Were there any opportunities for bias (as defined in chapter 10) to creep into the sample? Explain.
  5. What is the target population?
  6. On a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being very weak, 10 being very strong), what numerical value would you assign to the poll? Briefly explain your answer.
  7. Provide a Works Cited area at the bottom of your essay, in MLA format, to indicate where you got the surveys, and any other information pertaining to the surveys. You must also cite your sources in the text of your essay, in MLA format.
