Dear Committee,
This letter constitutes my Petition for Reinstatement to X School of Law. There were extraordinary circumstances that led to my deficient academic performance. Such extraordinary circumstances are the reasons why I failed to achieve the minimum G.P.A required to continue at X School of Law. My failure to perform much better during my first semester at the school is because of a crossed country moving with wife and children from State A to B; difficulty to found housing in the first 4 weeks while in school, which lead to my lack of preparation and concentration in class which caused my reading to be behind. Moreover, I was not aware of Law School writing format in which I spent a consistent amount of time preparing for class and the exams. I also spent a huge amount of time studying bluebook in which I did well. Furthermore, the load of courses and the balance between classes and family during the first two months of class in a new city were an issue that got me confused most of the times and such confusion lead to my final exams. As you can see, I did ok in my writing class and I passed the bluebook.
If reinstated, the quality of my academic performance at the college of Law would significantly improve. I am now settle in the city of Charlotte and my wife is the primary caregiver to our two children. Additionally, I now know the expectation in Law School because I had a taste of it, I know the writing format; in Fact, I passed my legal writing class, and I know I can be very successful in law school. I plan on going part time with option to retake all classes I earn below a grade of C. Going part time will help me to spend time on my reading practice more hypos and earn a better GPA. I am in a much better position than I was when I started class during the spring semester. I am now spending my summer classes studying law school in general and the expectation in each class. Also, my legal writing’s professor recommended some free online grammar classes (mooc.com and coursera.com) for the summer. I am now well prepared to continue law school in the fall if I am given a chance. I move to the United States because I believe America is a land of a second chance opportunity in life. I am requesting that I be given a second chance so I demonstrate my capacity to do well in law school. I know I can do this, and I know I was not well prepared for the spring semester. In fact, I requested my admission be deferred to summer 2016 and was rejected. For my Master degree, I took two classes a semester and as a result, I got a very good G.P.A. I know myself and I would not want to force myself in law school if I do not believe I can do it. I know I would not waste my time. I will be very successful. But, I must go part time and study full time. This way, I will do very good and would eventually earn the Dean’s list of honor. I believe going part time is my best option for success, and I please ask for your discretion to give me a second chance to proof myself.
