Is Terrorism Justified?

Is Terrorism Justified?

Chapter 11 of The Ethics of War and Peace: An Introduction to Legal and Moral Issues
Terrorism, Justification and Illusion (found in the online classroom)
Declaration of Jihad by Osama Bin Laden against the US

Explain whether or not you believe terrorism is a biased term derived by governments in power to delegitimize those with little power and if you think the use of terrorism is simply war by other means. Using the Just War tenets of just cause, legitimate authority, last resort, and proportionality, make an argument that justifies the use of terrorism by al-Qaeda. Looking at the distinction tenet that states that war should be directed towards enemy combatants, and not non-combatants, explain whether or not al-Qaeda is justified for targeting American civilians if it has declared America to be the enemy.

Food & Agriculture Field Study – Were you able to find foods that were genetically modified at the store?

4. Why is there a debate over genetically modified foods?
5. What is your position on GMOs? Do you feel GMOs are safe or not safe to eat? Should they be banned?
6. Should there be laws governing the production or labeling of GMOs?
7. Do you feel we need GMOs to feed the world?

Which of the skills mentioned (such as communication, initiative, interpersonal skills) do you believe are most critical?

1)This chapter mentions some ideas that you will study later in the semester, and you will learn about the theory-driven skills that you can utilize. Which of the skills mentioned (such as communication, initiative, interpersonal skills) do you believe are most critical? Which would you like to learn more about to improve your performance in the workplace?
Share an ethical dilemma, challenge or opportunity you have observed at work. How well was it handled?

write about a time, or times, when you were a leader, a helper, a volunteer, a member of a group, or any situation that is relevant to life and work. Try to write a story that you might share in an interview if asked, Why do you believe you are the best choice for the position for which you have applied

Many times in an interview an employer will ask you to tell them what makes you the best choice for a job, what your interests are, perhaps what hobbies you enjoy, how you respond under pressure, and how well you work in a group. These questions, particularly during an interview, are something you can prepare for by thinking about who you are, and what you have accomplished.

We are all more interesting than we realize and have stories to tell about situations that have affected our lives in good ways; ways that make us strong and hard working and problem solvers. In that light I would like you to think about your life in these terms and write about a time, or times, when you were a leader, a helper, a volunteer, a member of a group, or any situation that is relevant to life and work. Try to write a story that you might share in an interview if asked, Why do you believe you are the best choice for the position for which you have applied

Discussion paper

Discussion Paper: At the end of each module you are required to submit a 1-2 page discussion/reflection/response to the readings and lectures from that module. Your paper should address the readings and specifically respond critically to the ideas suggested by the readings. You can also discuss and analyze material covered in lecture, reflecting upon it critically. Again, these are due at the end of each module for a total of three response/discussion papers by the end of the semester.
