Questions for the Interview

You are to interview an American who is approximately 85 or older. NO ONE UNDER 80 WILL BE ACCEPTED. The interview is worth 30 % of your final grade. Your paper will summarize your findings. The paper should include some quotes from the conversations. Your interview write-up needs to be no less than 5 full double spaced pages, one inch margins, 12 pt Times New Roman fonts. Photos are not considered part of the 5 pages!

Below is a list of questions you may ask. Feel free to ask questions beyond those on the list. The questions are designed to direct your investigation and to stimulate fairly specific recollections. If they stimulate an in depth conversation – GREAT – I want you to experience the richness of these recollections and to record them in a way that is meaningful to you. Please protect confidentiality. If your subjects require it – you may change names and other pertinent information if necessary. Most people will not mind you using their names and the other information. Still, you need to be find out!

THE QUESTIONS BELOW ARE INTENDED TO STIMULATE RESPONSE – I AM NOT INTERESTED IN SIMPLE ANSWERS TO THE LIST OF QUESTIONS. REALLY LEARN ABOUT WHAT SOME THINGS OR WHAT LIFE WAS LIKE DURING THE EARLY TO MID 20TH CENTURY. GET YOUR INTERVIEWEES TO REMINISE. I WANT YOU TO CRITIQUE WHAT YOU HAVE LEARNED – SEE HISTORY THROUGH THEIR STORIES. DO YOU THINK THAT TIME HAS CHANGED THEIR INTERPRETATIONS OF THE PAST. HOW DO YOU THINK “YOU” BEING THE LISTENER TO THEIR STORIES MAY HAVE CHANGED THE WAY THEY TELL THEIR STORIES.
DO NOT DEBATE, ARGUE, or TAKE POSITIONS !!!
