2. Compare and/or contrast living in Canada with living in another country. (Note this prompt asks you to compare LIVING in Canada to another country; it doesnt ask you to compare two countries.)

Narrow, narrow, narrow. I refer to the above choices for your essay as prompts rather than topics because I expect you to select one and narrow in on a particular idea. A very broad level comparison is often simplistic and lacks coherence.
I highly recommend the Point-by-Point pattern of comparison. A Block/Subject-by-Subject pattern is unlikely to allow you space to clearly and sufficiently develop your comparison and reach the assignment length requirement.
Ensure your topic sentences make clear comparative points.
Ensure your comparison is equally balanced.
Make sure you carefully check your MLA formatting. As per course policies, incorrect formatting will result in an up to 10% penalty. Ask me in advance if youre still unsure about any formatting issues.
Look at some of the professional and student examples posted on the course Moodle site.
Structure your thesis statement carefully. An effective comparative thesis does not simply note the subjects of comparison, but also makes a clear point about the comparison (i.e. what the comparison illustrates).
Keep in mind, sometimes its logical for the thesis statement to follow the preview sentence in a comparison and contrast essay. As long as both components are within your outline, you can make the decision as to which order is most logical for your essay. (Of course, feel free to ask my advice.)
