Due Oct. 5 Please use the videos assigned to help you with this assignment as well as Chapter 3 of text. In this assignment describe the Power of each of Michael Porter’s Five Forces in the industry of the company you have chosen to do your Strategic Analysis on. Discuss the power of each of the five forces presented by Michael Porter in Chapter 3 of your text. Please make your assignment orderly and easy to read, using headings for each force – followed by your evaluation of the Force: (See Syllabus in START HERE for example of layout) Example: Power of Buyers – STRONG, MEDIUM or why(then briefly explain, using reasoning from the text/video) – Power of Suppliers (to the company) – Strong or weak (and why) Power of Buyers (from the company). Strong, Medium, Weak If you are talking about McDonald’s, the buyers are individuals. No one buyer has any significant power. For a buyer to have power, must buy a significant about of the company’s goods. An example is a sweater company funded by WalMart in the US. This company made sweaters exclusively for Walmart. When Walmart saw an opportunity to get sweaters for just pennies cheaper in Asia, it switched companies. The American sweater company went out of business. In this case, for the company, there was only one buyer, so the power of that buyer was very strong. Power of Competition (within the industry) Intense, moderate, low Power of Substitute Products – Remember that a substitute product is something different from. Coke is NOT a substitute for Pepsi – that would fall under competition. Electronic Security system would be a substitute for guard dogs. Substitutes are generally products or services form a different industry. Power of New Entrants – here you will look under the barriers to entry in Ch 3 and the videos. The power would be weak if the companies in the industry have economies of scale, if the industry is capitol intensive, if there is a lot of loyalty to existing companies, etc. By submitting this paper, you agree: (1) that you are submitting your paper to be used and stored as part of the SafeAssign™ services in accordance with the Blackboard Privacy Policy; (2) that your institution may use your paper in accordance with your institution’s policies; and (3) that your use of SafeAssign will be without recourse against Blackboard Inc. and its affiliates.

You will be prompted to enter your last name and 7-digit student ID# followed by “EWL.” You will be directed to the first segment of the video. Watch each segment. Although this took place several years ago, it is an interesting aspect of labor relations. Please post a response with your reaction to the video. Also respond to other posts.

It seems based on the discussion of Sandrin, that union leaders are well informed and involved in the companies tasks that offer positions. He discusses that Northwest will meet with union leadership when they plan farm-out, or jobs that they will send for outsourcing. The union leaders will evaluate if the work can be done in house just as cost effective. He discusses that the farm-out committees are able to keep the jobs in house and add employment for union members. Increased in job security by keeping the positions in house help with the motivation and satisfaction of employees. From the video, Northwest is the only airline currently using farm-out committees, comprised of management and union representation. The process can show the importance of involvement of union leadership and representative to not only union members, but non-union employees and managers. Having a great working relationship that is involved and well thought out, ensure avoidance of distribution in work or costly court fees.
Another discussion in the video was the relationship between unions and companies. In the past, unions were seen as an entity that was fueled by hostility and wanted nothing to do with comprising or working together with a company to reach a solution. Even at Northwest, Sandrin discusses that there were 17 months of strikes. Today, Northwest has a great relationship with the union, build on respect. Each organization takes respectful consideration of each other’s plan and views and they work together to reach a solution. In my opinion, employees will respect the company in return because working successfully with the union shows that the management cares for the employees. Employees tend to work harder if they believe everyone has their best interest in mind and treats them with dignity and respect.

Assignment 1: Discussion: Recovery? In Module 3, Rob, the father of the Centervale family, sexually assaulted his daughter Lucy and forced her into prostitution. Lucy, who is a minor and a victim of parental child abuse must try to cope with living in foster care; apart from her family while trying to heal from the aftermath of the abuse. Lucy will suffer for the rest of her life from witnessing the death of a friend she asked to sleep over and other crimes she has seen. It is very important that she goes through extensive rehabilitation so she can have an opportunity to become a productive member of society. What’s Her Current Condition? Lucy has drowned much of her pain in drug abuse to cope with domestic violence, sexual assault, incest, and trauma. She has been a witness to homicide (her friend’s death) and has had no advocate on her behalf at any time in her adolescence. It is difficult for her to form or rely on relationships. Victims like Lucy need various types of rehabilitation for drug use, sexual assault, and severe trauma. Her goal is to stay away from the type of behavior she was forced into by her parents—persons whom she had trusted the most. If she recovers, she will need to establish new relationships and learn to trust individuals to not abuse or take advantage of her. Submission Details: By Saturday, October 10, 2015. Research in the Argosy Library and locate an article that discusses the steps of recovery for a victim of sexual assault. Make sure to include a reference for the article you use to complete this discussion posting. Discuss the rehabilitation procedures that may be implemented for Lucy’s speedy recovery. Explain how Lucy might respond to the possibility of a new life beyond the traumas of drug abuse and sexual assault?
Dewar (2010) indicates that the field of economics can provide a structure to examine “the implications of individual decision making and help define the alternative mechanisms to improve resource allocation” (p. 9), but it cannot be used as a solution to all issues concerning healthcare access and delivery.
Economists prepare economic analysis briefs to provide insight into how economic market forces operate.
