Financial Intermediary

Critically assess the theories regarding the main functions of financial intermediaries and explaining why they exist, and how financial markets and intermediaries affect economic growth. I only need the introduction as the main body has already been worked on.

Effective listening

1) There are several barriers to effective listening discussed in your textbook, including weasel words, euphemisms, jargon, and gobbledygook. Summarize what each of these fallacies are.

2) Go on YouTube or Google and search for infomercials. Infomercials are a form of paid programming that masks itself as informative but is actually designed to persuade consumers to purchase a particular product. These products often bear the label as seen on TV. For example, The Sham Wow was marketed successfully in an infomercial in the 2000s.

3) Watch at least one infomercial and identify at least two times weasel words are used in the commercial. Explain what the words are and what is omitted. Discuss the information that would need to be included to avoid each weasel word.

4) Find one example of a euphemism, jargon, or gobbledygook. Explain the example and why you think it falls into one of these categories. Discuss how this element could be improved so it is no longer a listening fallacy.

Just because it is a terrible act, is it an act of terrorism? State and support your position.

Just because it is a terrible act, is it an act of terrorism? State and support your position.

Extending from the foregoing, does it matter that there is no common or universally developed definition for terrorism? Does the fact that there is no universal definition allow for confusion, shifting definitions resultant of political expedience and /or opportunities for terrorists to exploit? State and support your position. Also state two questions you would like to ask the class on this topic?

Over a decade ago, a special commission was convened to evaluate Londons official response to its 7/7/2005 bus and subway bombings. News coverage of this report sparked renewed anxiety in Londoners, showing that reactions to trauma do not pass quickly; they are far reaching and run deep, ready to be triggered by reminders of the traumatic event. Watch this BBC video for more information.

Some have called the London bombings Britains 9/11. I have heard this comparison on several occasions and wondered, to what extent and in what ways is this the case? And now, with more recent attacks and attempts to traumatically alter the lives of Londoners and those of other European country residents, the question arises again. How might these events be more equal than we might think in magnitude of trauma? They are clearly not equal in impact on the day to day operation of the cities involved. Londons/Englands and Pariss/Frances respective recovery periods following their attacks were much shorter compared to New Yorks and U.S.s reaction to 9/11. Given these differences, what are the similarities and how would you explain them? Is there a one-size-fits-all type of trauma reaction that occurs when terrorists strike? Or might we need a model that incorporates culture as a mitigating factor? What do you think? Be sure to link a reading or two to your thoughts. Also state two questions you would ask the class on this topic?

Theatre Paper (16 Ways We Communicate in Theater.) Comparison of communication between two plays.

The paper is supposed to compare 2 plays. The comparisons are the 16 ways that they communicate to the audience. The paper must be 16 sections, each section comparing the two plays on that specific way of communicating. Must have an introduction and conclusion. Writer is able to chose which two plays they would like to compare out of a list I have given in the documents! The 16 ways are in the documents as well.
