Heart Disease

Assignment 1: Application Best Practices
For over 20 years, the Womens Health Initiative (WHI) study has conducted research trials to examine factors that impact risks and development of conditions that impact women such as heart disease (Congestive Heart Failure, Heart Attack, Stroke, or Coronary Artery Disease). Health care providers use results from these trials to develop guidelines for delivering care to patients. In your role in clinical settings, you must be familiar with these guidelines, and you must be aware that through clinical practice, guidelines frequently evolve and change. Often, what is considered a best practice today might not be a best practice in the future. For this Assignment, you compare guidelines outlined in the WHI study to current best practices for assessing and managing conditions.

To Prepare:
Review the Womens Health Initiative article in this weeks Learning Resources.
Locate and select a research article that addresses current best practices for assessing and managing the disorder. Be sure that the research article you select is from a reputable source.
Consider the similarities and differences between the best practices presented in the WHI study and the article you selected. Think about the potential impact of differences in best practices on womens health.
Consider whether the best practices in the article you selected should be used in clinical practice.
To Complete:
Write a 3-page paper that addresses the following:
Describe Heart Disease you selected from the Womens Health Initiative study.
Explain the current best practices for assessing and managing this disorder as suggested in the research article you selected.
Compare the best practices presented in the WHI study to the current best practices presented in the article. Explain how the differences in best practices might impact womens health.
Explain whether you think the current best practices in the article you selected should be used in clinical practice. Support your position with evidence-based research.
Please use replicable references that are within the past 5 years. Use APA format and double space. This paper should be based on an out-patient clinical experience of a nurse practitioner, not hospital experience.

Neuroblastoma

Part #3 (due in Module 14): The final draft of the Annotated Bibliography should focus on filling gaps in your research and discovering additional evidence to prove your arguments. Consider what additional perspectives, information, and evidence your need to fully develop your thesis statement and the arguments you make in the Argument Essay. What else do you still need to know? What more do you need to convince your readers? Revise the previous five entries, as needed, and add three (3) additional sources for a total of eight (8)annotated bibliography entries. These sources may come from the databases available through the Ivy Tech Library website or from the open web, so long as they are credible. Some useful genres to look for here might include films; Ted Talks; newspaper or magazine articles; public polling data from polling organizations like Pew Research, fiction/poetry/song lyrics; editorial cartoons; academic journal articles; book chapters; essays; government, advocacy, or research institution websites; court rulings; or speeches.

In this activity, you will read transrpts of sections from three different speeches. Then youll select the speech excerpt that is the most interesting to you and answer some questions related to the speakers style and language choices.

Critically evaluate the quality of research design and evidence in published social research.

One of the most crucial components of this course is developing a research project from conceptualizing a research problem and develop a number of complementary design, measurement, and data collection approaches to bring evidence to bear on the problem. Throughout the class, you created a research study based on publicly available data from the General Social Survey (GSS). You chose data which were representative of your interests and satisfied your research question and hypotheses.
This Assignment meets these course objectives:
Describe and apply the concepts and logic of elementary statistics.
Conduct statistical analysis in SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences).
Compare and contrast different types of data and the statistics that can be used to analyze them
Examine the differences between desrptive and inferential statistics and their use in the social sciences.
Form critical interpretations of quantitative research literature in sociology and other social sciences.
Complete and interpret desrptive and inferential statistical data analysis
Critically evaluate the quality of research design and evidence in published social research.
Instructions
The Final Portfolio Assignment is where you pull together the research youve been working on the first seven weeks of class. Using your weekly Forum posts, and the feedback from your classmates and instructor on your posts, construct a 6-8 page paper that fully explores your research topic in a way that provides the context and explanation surrounding the analyses provided in the paper. Your professor is looking to see whether you understand what you are writing about, not simply going through the motions.
Citing literature about your research topic, be sure to set the stage for the data and analyses that you present. Briefly describe the General Social Survey as your survey instrument. Provide the questions, verbatim, that were asked in the survey which became the variable which you chose to use. You will also need to include the answer choices for each of them. This portion can be a table if you choose. Clearly identify and explain your hypothesis and the five steps of hypothesis testing as they apply to your paper. Share and explain frequency table(s), crosstabs, and histograms or graphing to describe your data. Using the statistical tests you ran each week in class (correlation, t-test, etc.), present the tests and your findings. Explain the results of the statistical tests and pull in some literature to provide context, demonstrating how your results and research fit into the larger body of literature on this topic. Be sure to use proper APA formatting for citations and references. However, you do not need to include an abstract or table of contents. You can find guidance in APA by clicking here to access the Purdue Online Writing Lab.
