Margin of Error (Research and Statistics in Psychology)

Review Chapter 6 in your course text, Research Methods for the Behavioral Sciences. Pay particular attention to the concept of margin of error and what it represents.

Using the Walden Library, select a forensic psychology research article of interest to you, and one that uses margin of error in reporting its results.

Review the study keeping in mind the concept of margin of error and its implications in the study.

Think about how and why the margin of error impacts the results of the study.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post by Day 4 a brief desrption of the research article you selected and a brief summation of the sections on methods and results. Explain how the margin of error is reported in the article, and how and why the margin of error impacts the results of the study.

Describe the strength of the relationship (e.g. very strong, moderate, weak, etc.).

Study Desrption: A school educator is interested in determining the potential relationship between grade point average (GPA) and IQ scores among ninth graders. The educator takes a random sample of 30 ninth graders aged 14 years old and administers the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Fourth Edition (WISC-IV). The WISC-IV includes a Full Scale IQ (FSIQ; however, for this assignment we will just call it IQ).

Output file: See Week 5 SPSS Output.pdf file.

Answer the following Questions:
a.Hypotheses – Formulate null and alternative hypotheses. What do you think is the relationship between IQ scores and GPA?
b.Variables Describe the scale of measurement (nominal, ordinal, interval, or ratio) for each of the variables.
c.Correlation Write an overview of the results of the correlation (at least two paragraphs), including the appropriate and necessary statistical results within sentences and in proper APA formatting. Be sure to provide sufficient explanation for any numbers presented. Consider the following in your overview and conclusions: Is there a significant correlation between IQ scores and GPA? If so, what does a significant correlation mean?
Using the correlation table and scatterplot, explain whether the relationship is positive, negative, or no correlation.
Describe the strength of the relationship (e.g. very strong, moderate, weak, etc.).
What do the results tell us about your hypotheses?
What conclusions can we draw from these results? What conclusions can we NOT make using these results?

Write a total of 400-700 words in response to these questions.

DOES THE USE OF PESTICIDES INCREASES THE RISK OF CANCER

1. I will review the references and want to see that they are Journal articles and focused on your topic (8 for the 3-pg paper); please include author, year, title article, title of journal, volume number, page numbers (nothing more or less)-I will also count the pages (remember figures do not count toward pg numbers).
2. Is there an introductory paragraph that introduces the topic, justifies the topic and introduces the subtopics?
3. Are the main subtopics well developed in subsequent paragraphs in terms of scientific details (quantitative information or technical discussion of topics)?
4. Are the sentences and paragraphs well constructed, including topic and transitional sentences. Do ideas flow between paragraphs and sentences?
5. Make sure you write in your own words! Read the papers and synthesize the information and then construct the paper yourself-organizing it by TOPIC NOT Papers!
6. Paper needs to include subtopics that connects each paragraph and subtopic together.

Discuss disaster mitigation through the application of disaster aid. While it is the goal of such aid to provide valuable assistance to disaster victims, sometimes unexpected negative impacts may occur.

The readings this week in part, discuss disaster mitigation through the application of disaster aid. While it is the goal of such aid to provide valuable assistance to disaster victims, sometimes unexpected negative impacts may occur.

For this weeks Forum, please search for a news article from a reliable news source that addresses disaster aid to a community impacted by a NATURAL disaster (use a major newspaper, magazine other than pop culture versions: New York Times, Wall Street Journal The Economist, etc. ). The article should be from 2010 to the present.

Provide an APA formatted citation for the article and summarize its contents, demonstrating how the information in the article might represent the pitfalls of disaster relief. Show thoughtful contemplation of the topic and clarity of analysis (min 250 words). Also state two questions you would like to ask the class.

Discuss the potential for the use of chemicals specifically Toxic Industrial Materials (TIMs) and Toxins.

Discuss the potential for the use of chemicals specifically Toxic Industrial Materials (TIMs) and Toxins.

Describe what TIMs and Toxins are and how they differ from weaponized Chemical Warfare Agents (CWAs) and biological agents. Discuss which concern you the most and why from the standpoint of being able to prepare against the use of or mitigate the impact of the effects of the use of. State and clearly support your position.

And also state two questions you would like to address to the class.

Considering our in-class discussions of The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson, write an essay that discusses the relationship between the characters who are spending the summer at the house.

Considering our in-class discussions of The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson, write an essay that discusses the relationship between the characters who are spending the summer at the house.

Your essay must make an argument about the relationship between the characters, and can focus on two characters, or all of them, if you wish.

Make sure you consider things like whether or not the characters get along, what role each person plays, how their interactions drive the plot, and whether or not you think they are integral to the story or not.

Papers that feature more than 5 grammar or spelling mistakes will have 10% deducted from their final grade.

Final Goals for Instructional Design

Each goal needs to address these 5 pieces.

Clearly related to the identified performance problem.
Stated in observable and measurable performances.
Stated in terms of students performance after instruction.
Classified correctly in terms of Gagne or Bloom categories of learning.
Achievement criterion for the group is stated and is realistic for that group.
