Conduct research on the representation of race, gender, sexual orientation, and/or ethnicity in American culture, particularly in film, advertisements, news media, and/or sports. Your essay should pursue some of the following questions, though not all of them will be relevant, and many more will present themselves as you conduct your research: How do these images and representations affect the mainstream American perceptions of race, gender, sexual orientation, or culture? What effects do these representations have on the cultures and groups being represented? Your essay should be between 1500 and 2000 words. You must include a Works Cited page, NOT an Annotated Bibliography. Your Works Cited page does not contribute to your word count. You must cite at least five sources, including at least one scholarly article (peer-reviewed). You may use as many essays from the texts as you want, but you may only count one of them toward your five source minimum. You may use dictionaries or encyclopedias (including Wikipedia), but they are probably unnecessary and they do not count as part of your five sources.

Research Question:Does cochlear implantation before the age of 5 improve vocabulary development in children with profound hearing loss? You are required to write a journal article for your selected .You need to conduct a systematic review based on the research question I have provided. There is a minimum of 5 and maximum of 10 articles to be reviewed. Evidence that you have reflected on the peer feedback you received from your Assessment 2 is required (I will provide this). To complete this task you will need to do all parts of the assignment as outlined below: (i) Reflect on the feedback you were given by your peer and in the beginning of your assignment indicate any changes you made to your research question, search strategy and/or the journal in response to this feedback. ( I will attach my assignment 1 where you can use the same search terms). (iii) Assess and critique each article using an appropriate tool. (iv) Report results of the assessment highlighting commonalities and divergent results. (v) Summarise the results and if able, make recommendations for practice, education or recommendations for future research. (vi) Comply with selected journal’s guidelines including headings, with the possible exception of their word limit. I will provide you with the journal I selected. (vii) Cut and paste the 5-10 articles’ bibliographic details and abstracts at the end of your assignment together with the author guidelines for marking purposes. Marking criteria: 1. Reflection on peer feedback is provided. (10 marks) Criteria 2 to 7(inclusive) form your journal article (systematic review) and each section or its equivalent will be marked as follows: 2. YOU MUST: Start with an Attention Grabber in the first paragraph. (Review course documents for tips on how to create a strong attention grabber/hook. ) After your hook/attention grabber, always introduce the title of the short story (or literary piece) and the author’s name. 3. Include 3 clear cut thesis points (The thesis points should be your critically thought out ANSWERS to the question/prompt. NOTE: The attention grabber and the thesis material should form ONE paragraph. 4. Each thesis point will become the basis for one body/support paragraph. Please include a topic sentence. 5. Use in-text citations. You MUST use one quote from the essay as evidence per body/support paragraph to support your thesis points. 6. The 5th paragraph will be your summary/conclusion. Summarize your main/thesis points, then conclude with your own take on the topic.

How can I apply what I learned about developing my ideas to writing in my profession?

You are being asked to think about the skills you have learned during this module related to writing an expository essay and how those skills might be helpful to you in the workplace. For example, you are not likely to encounter writing situations at work that require a thesis statement at the end of your introduction, as we so often see in academic writing; however, in the workplace, you will need to think about your writing purpose, something that writing a thesis helps us learn. For your journal, think about this connection and others as you think about how the genre of writing you learned about in this module can help you when you have to write at work. You might consider the following questions: How can I apply what I learned about developing my ideas to writing in my profession? How does the information I learned about writing in a formal academic style help me in workplace writing? How can I apply what I learned about organizing my ideas to a situation I might encounter as a professional? Why is it important to consider my audiences in the context of workplace writing? These are just suggested questions. You may have other ideas you wish to explore as you think about the connections between academic writing, expository writing, and writing in the workplace. *Your journal entry should be at least 200 words in length.
